Medicine Creek State Recreation Area
Just to the south of Farnam is Medicine Creek Reservoir. Rated by many visitors
as one of Nebraska's loveliest recreation spots, according to Leisure and Sport Review - Travel and Recreation Catalog.
Medicine Creek State Recreation Area has a total of 8,500 acres of public land and water. The lake is approx. 1,850
acres with 29 miles of shoreline.
Fishing is just one of the activities people enjoy at Medicine Creek. White bass,
channel catfish, Flatheads and wipers just to name a few.
Hunting is another option available with over 5, 500 acres of wildlife habitats.
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and U.S. Bureau of Reclamation have planted over 50,000 trees and shrubs. Pheasant,
quail, turkeys, whitetail and mule deer are perfect for bow and firearm hunters with their growing population due
the extensive management of the habitats.
Camping facilities at Medicine Creek range from the most modern to the very basic.
The modern sites include electrical hookups, showers, modern restrooms, boat ramps, fish cleaning stations, swimming beach,
dump station, fresh water wells and BBQ grills. Medicine Creek Lodge is located on the south side of the dam on Trail
No. 1. They offer a restaurant, groceries, camping supplies, bait, tackle, boat rentals, gas, air-conditioned cabins
and hunting, fishing and park entry permits.
